My love for party planning really shined through this year. If you have a party of 1 or a party of 10, you can still put together something special for your kids for the holiday season. For our Gingerbread decorating party, I wanted it to be magical and allow the kids to have fun just be creative.
Party Prep
The snowflakes: Prior to the day of our Gingerbread party, we made paper snowflakes. They are incredibly simple to make. All you need is paper lunch bags, glue and scissors. They added the wow effect to the backdrop of the party. The kids were amazed by their creations. It was so much fun too.
For the table, the only thing I purchased were the gingerbread houses and the sugar decorations for the houses. I had the pink chiffon table overlay from my daughters floral first birthday and it incorporated perfectly into the theme. I have so many tiered platters and wood platters that I used for the cupcakes, cake and to hold the Gingerbread houses.
Each place setting had a wooden board topped with a Gingerbread house from Target. I also added a glass milk bottle and tinted the milk pink with food coloring, a stripe paper straw and a powdered mini donut. I included a little basket with donuts as well. Everyone had their own tray of decorating sprinkles, frosting and candy embellishments.
We also made salt dough ornaments. We make them for a few holidays so I can have the kids handprints and compare how much they have grown from holiday to holiday. This year, we painted the ornaments as Santa’s. I forgot to put a hole through the ornament before it was put into the oven, so instead, I glued a piece of tulle ribbon to the back. I also print their name and year on the back with a permanent marker.
Sweets
A lot of the items on the table were handmade and home made. The kids and I made the gingerbread cake and cupcakes. We chose an almond buttercream with vanilla cake. The flavors were so good together. The top of the cake was adorned with a gingerbread house made out of graham crackers and a pink fondant bow. We thought it would be cute to add little gingerbread men onto the top of the cupcakes along with fondant balls to match the top of the cake.
Party Time
When you have a party, you have to dress up right? The girls wore their pink tutus and my son wore his favorite cozy sweater and an adorable pair of khakis. The all looked absolutely adorable.
We took some photos with our cardboard gingerbread man that we made. Its pretty awesome what you can make with cardboard, blue and a little glitter!
The kids could not wait to dive right into making their houses. It told them to just go for it and to have fun. My son truly tried his hardest and piped all of the lines of the house beautifully. He took each of the gum drops and put them on the top of the roof. I was so proud of him. The girls ate most of their creations. My youngest started putting the tube of frosting right into her mouth instead of on the house. The majority of the candy ended up on the floor and it was honestly perfect. They were having the most amazing time.
We turned up alexa really loud and told her to play Christmas music. We sang, we danced and we laughed. It was absolutely perfect and the kids told me that they had the most amazing day. I really do not need much to make my kids happy, you just need some quality time with them. It is just so important because they grow up so quickly. I will cherish these memories forever.
I challenge you to break out the frosting, baking utensils and have some fun in the kitchen with your kids. The house can wait, the dishes will always be there. Take some photos and get creative with the kiddos and please share what you did with me.
