Valentine’s Day may be only day, but we like to celebrate for the 14 days leading up to the holiday of love. The winter months can be very trying and this holiday gives the kids something to look forward to. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to shower your kids with some extra love and excitement.
Here are 7 fun activities to partake in with your kids this holiday:
14 Days of Love
This is my version of an advent calendar. They aren’t just for Christmas! We use them for every holiday. I made a simple countdown using paper, labeled each day with the numbers 1-14 and included the theme for the day. Our first day included Bath bombs for each of my children. I cut out paper hearts with their names on the front and on the back I added why I love each of them differently.
Valentine’s Day Cards
My children bring gifts to school for Valentine’s Day. They are each allowed to pick out the theme of their cards. I usually like them to write their names to their friends, but this year they came already printed from Minted. We did take the time to make gifts for their friends. With my daughters, they created “gum ball machines” made from cupcake liners, mini fillable plastic ornaments and ribbon. We stuffed the ornaments with heart candy, sealed it with tape and a hot glue gun to seal the ornament to the bottom of the cupcake liner.
Galentine’s Day party
Sometimes the girls just want to have fun. My daughters love to get dressed up in their tutus and Valentine’s Day makes for the perfect occasion to get fancy. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. We had some heart balloons, a ballon sign that said “GALS” and made some milkshakes. Its always nice to have some girl time, whether it be with your daughters, sisters, friends, etc.
Dessert charcuterie board
What would a holiday be without one of our dessert boards? We made molten chocolate cakes in the shape of hearts and drizzled melted chocolate over the top. We also added some heart marshmallows, salted caramel chocolates, raspberries for a pop of color, cheese, macarons and salami shaped to look like a rose. My choice of beverage with a dessert charcuterie is a rose. The little ladies had non-alcoholic sparkling rose.
I love using hues of pink, chocolate and cream for my Valentine’s Day dessert board. The girls took such an interest in watching how to make the rosette salami and I let them make some too. I love it when they want to help out in the kitchen. That is what it is all about.
Heart Cookie Decorating
We love making cookies and using our heart cookie cutters. Their are so many fun things you can do with cookies. I did purchase the Target heart cookie set this year. They came pre-baked and included the frosting and sprinkles to decorate the cookies.
Heart Appreciation WALL
We all need words of encouragement and positivity, don’t we? I thought it would fun to leave notes on my children’s door every day- reminders of why they are so special. you can do the same by leaving notes in neighbors, friends and family members mailboxes. What a better time to show that you care.
PIZZA PARTY
It’s not just any pizza party, but one with a heart shales pizza. We get a pizza kit every single time a snow storm is on its way, its become a tradition. So you can say we have a huge love for making our own pizza in the kitchen. Local grocery stores always offer pizza dough, but we always buy our kits from Napoli pizza.
I would love to hear if you try one of the activities with your kids. Try one or try them all, all that matters is that you spend time together. Tell your loved ones you love them every day.
