With my middle child’s third birthday on the horizon, I found myself looking back at her first birthday party. Since I didn’t have my blog at the time, I wanted to share the day with you and reminisce a little bit. It seems like just yesterday I was putting my everything into this party. I sat down with my daughter and showed her the book I made of her day. She said, mama, it’s so beautiful and your dress is so beautiful too. That is exactly why I do it. I want my kids to look back on every single birthday and smile in knowing how much I love and care about them.
Decorating and design is in my blood. When I can’t sleep at night, I plan. I live to see the sparkle in my kids eyes when they walk into their party.
For Giuliana, she has always been surrounded with florals and been our princess. We always had flowers in her nursery and she is a vision in pink. It was completely fitting that we threw her a floral first birthday party.
The Cake
There were three. One we saved for her cake smash. They were a naked cake. In case you didn’t know, I had a side hustle baking cakes through Grad school. It was called Sweet Confections by Amanda. I absolutely loved it, but I enjoyed design so much more.
The Decor
I went with hues of pink, rustic browns and greens. I made our dining table into the food and dessert table. I made floral hoops and hung them in a cascading fashion from the windows. I used rustic cake platters and different sized tiers and trays. Everything was adorned with a flower all the way to the cupcakes. I used a heat transfer sheet to adhere a wood sign I made into the menu board.
The Food
We chose a brunch theme for her day. We had yogurt parfaits, French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and her favorite, donuts. We also had pink milk and mimosas for the adults. I made sure the champagne was chilled using frozen rose petals and roses for an added touch.
Outside, I decorated a table for the kids to sit at. Each child received a pot to plant a flower and remember Giuliana’s day. A ladder hung from above the table with flowers cascading from it. I made a farmhouse flower stand for the children to play with.
The Gift
I purchased a playhouse for her birthday gift. I hand painted it white and painted the windows black. We added an overhang to house her drink stand. We finished it with a doormat and a lantern.
This floral first birthday was absolutely perfect and came together beautifully. I also lucked out with an 80 degree day in May.
