For the past year my daughter has wanted a mermaid birthday party. I cannot believe she is going to be five. Honestly where does the time go? Once they hit five, they just seem so much under. I’m so proud of her and the little girl she is, it’s just so hard being a mom and seeing them grow when it feels like she was just my little baby.
We planned her party over the past few months. Each time a piece of mail came in, she got so excited. I involved her on most of the decor, but wanted some items to remain a surprise for her big day.
Before I begin any party, I decide on the color palette I will be choosing. I found pillow covers from H&M that were used for the seating at the kids table. Jen from The Balloon Barn was able to them match the colors perfectly for the balloons.
I wanted the entire setup to be on our patio. The kids table front and center, the bubble bar cart angled to the side and the marquee lights with mermaid balloons to the far left with the dessert table on the far right. We moved the patio furniture to the grass for the adults to sit at.
For entertainment, I had a bounce house, face painter and craft kits that I made and a piñata filled with candy. The craft was a mermaid tail that the kids got to paint and finish with glitter.

Kids Table
The table was handmade by my husband. Can you believe that it even folds in half? So awesome for storing. I used a white tablecloth on the table, netting on top and a sequin runner down the center. I purchased the flowers from my local grocery store. Each of the place settings had a sparkling drink and I adhered ribbon and a hand-painted star to them. I love cookies as favors for a birthday, but they fell through last minute, so I made cotton candy ice cream cones and added edible lister dust to them.
I laid down an outdoor rug under the table. Over the rug I put a drop cloth. Around the table I put pillows (pink, blue and green). I made one pillow to say mermaid vibes. I want to add it to my shop, what do you think?
Favors
Each of the kids received mermaid crayons, bubbles and a treasure chest (bath bomb, bracelet and mermaid sand).
Dessert table
The table included a tablecloth with the netting overlay. I love using different height pedestal stand for a layered effect to the table. The backdrop included the fringe 4ft garland and balloon arch. I added the candy kabobs to the shell bowl. The cake was out front and center on the table.
Bubble Bar
What would a mermaid party be without a bubble bar? I included glasses, seltzer and mermaid punch (cotton candy ice cream, 7up and ice).
I have to say that this was one of the best parties I have planned. I have learned so much about party planning. My daughter enjoyed herself so much with her friends. Last year she wouldn’t stand on her two feet and was so scared to be around people. It brought me so much joy to see her so happy with the people she loved most.
A huge thank you to all my vendors for their creativity. I truly appreciate the amazing people that I get to work with.
