I have at least 12 boxes of Christmas decoration and one staking shelf in the garage that accommodates the outdoor decor and 5 branches of garland. Then I have bags of all my Christmas trees. Then I will let you in on a deeper secret… I sold most of my “unused” items before the holiday started. To my defense, I accumulated all of this decor before I even had a home of my own.
With all that said, life has been super busy lately. With three children and having two jobs while being a stay at home mom, I needed more simplicity this holiday season. Can one even have simplicity with the before mentioned? In any event, I knew I was not going to be able to lug out all 12 boxes of my Christmas decor and go through them this year. My every day decor changed to a more modern vibe so I wanted to follow suit with my Christmas decor.
This then leads me to our holiday home tour. There is a consistent flow from the kitchen to the dining area through the living room. I chose a green, natural wood, white and black color scheme.
For the kitchen, I stuck with neutral tones of tan that brought out the brick in our backsplash. I used white jars with wood utensils and added hints of evergreen throughout to add natural elements.
A nice transition to the dining room was using a faux green eucalyptus centerpiece with bronze bells cascading down the table. I used gold candle holders and tan candles throughout the centerpiece. A pop of green adorned the wall with a handmade sign by Oh Sweet Skye. I have to say that this piece was my inspiration to my entire decor. The holidays would just not be complete without one of Whitney’s signs in our home. The place setting was that of green placemats, black dinner plates and gold utensils. A new addition to the table was two black metal chairs. These chairs worked twofold as both a statement piece and a nice way to have my kiddos at the table and not worry about a mess on the upholstered chairs. Always thinking like a designer and a mother makes the world go round!
Moving on into the living room, you will see natural elements again, evergreen, white accents and black decor. I spray painted the metal portion of the fireplace back to black to give a more modern feel. We added wooden elements on the Christmas tree which were strands of wood bead garland. I also added a few more green pillows to the sectional sofa including one lumbar pillow with gold tones of Christmas trees.
The children’s room and playroom went in an entirely different direction. Kids do not want a modern Christmas. They want classic red colors with fantasy lights, large ornaments and Santa Claus decor. I decked out the kids beds and even gave them Santa’s workshop right in their room.
We decorated the playroom together. my son wanted to set their table and he even laid down a tablecloth with a place setting for four. We lined up nutcrackers on their kitchen shelves and draped stocking garland from their chalkboard. It was everything they wanted it to be, as it should be in a space that they call their own.
Our master bedroom played off our holiday colors very nicely with whites and green. I added some evergreen velour pillows, a faux basket tree and a bell wreath. The wreath transformed the room especially since the board and batten wall.
This is our home for the holidays.
