My family absolutely loves to cook. My kids are in the kitchen with me for every meal, which is so important. Ever since my oldest was little, we grew a garden every Spring. I want my children to know exactly where their food comes from, how to grow it and ultimately how it is made. They also have a better appreciation for me because they know the time it takes to prepare and cook a meal. I just want my children to remember these days of their childhood, surrounded around the dinner table and cooking at the kitchen island with me and their siblings. I also want them to carry on these traditions when they get older and start their own family. Look at me, getting all sappy and my oldest is only 6.
Why we love it
This long introduction leads me to why we decided to purchase a Bertello Pizza oven, which you may have seen on Shark Tank. Well for starters, my family and I just love pizza. What is better then being in your own backyard, playing with the kids and waiting for your pizza to cook on the patio? The Bertello Wood Fire Pizza Oven is very easy to use. We also were getting really tired of hot dogs and hamburger cook outs during the summer and my kids are super picky. When my children are able to make their own food and add their own toppings, they seem to eat their dinner. We have also tried to make our pizza in our home oven and nothing compares to the Bertello Pizza Oven.
Let me also shed some light on different topping preferences. My daughter loves plain cheese pizza, my son loves pepperoni, my husband loves meatball and sausage and I love specialty pizzas: broccoli and ricotta or goat cheese and caramelized onions. That is a lot of pizzas when going out to eat and most of the time we have to just settle for cheese. My point; we don’t all get what we want when we dine out. The taste of the pizza is just exceptional. You are cooking in an 800 degree oven, which allows your crust to become incredible crispy, not something you would receive from your home oven.
Another huge takeaway with cooking outside is that you are not heating up your house. In Connecticut, we have had some of the worst heat waves this year. If you weren’t in the pool, you had to be inside during the day. So, to be able to cook outside and keep the inside of your house cool was another huge takeaway from the Bertello Pizza Oven.
Why we chose A PIZZA OVEN
The Bertello Wood Oven is portable. Yes, you can use it at your home or bring it to your family members house for use at their outdoor party. You can set the pizza oven up at a table at your next outdoor party. We set it up on a wood table that was large enough to put the prepared and cooked pizzas.
The oven also heats up exceptionally fast. We usually start pre-heating the oven about 30 minutes prior to dinner. My husband is usually in charge of checking the temperature and the kids and I prepare the pizzas with our specialty ingredients. We like a very thing crust, so the pizza literally cooks within minutes and thank goodness because it smells so good that we can hardly wait to eat it.
You also don’t have to stop at just making pizzas in this oven. You can use the oven for meats, vegetables and fish, so it is definitely useful for vegetarians as well.
Don’t say i didn’t warn you…
In the two weeks we have had the oven, we have used it four times. It probably would have been used more if we were not having so much rain this summer. So, as I mentioned, you will become addicted. This oven cooks pizza better then your favorite pizza restaurant. My kids clean their plates and then go back to running around in the backyard.

Recommendations for use
I recommend using only dough in the oven with your first pizza. You do not want to waste good cheese and sauce on a burnt pizza. Every now and again we still burn our crust, but it still taste so good, so that says a lot. You need to turn your dough every 20-30 seconds so it evenly cooks on all sides. Remember, you are not cooking in a traditional oven at 350 degrees, you are cooking in a pizza oven at over 800 degrees for about 3 minutes. Once the oven has reached it ideal temperature, your pizza is done in minutes.
I purchase my dough from my local pizza restaurant. I do not typically use a store bough dough. The pizza restaurant always has dough that is ready to use and you don’t need to let rise. To get the dough to not stick, I started off using flour, bit have since been using corn meal. I do prefer the corn meal, but if you have an allergy, the flour will work just fine.
