After the kids go to bed at night, my office is where I dwell. My office space can often times become the “dumping zone” and gets overlooked for design. It became my objective this year to refresh this space to make me even more productive. They say that you become more productive in an organized space and I could not agree more.
My first objective was to declutter and get rid of items I no longer needed. For instance, I had two printers and only needed use of one. Another eye sore was the cob web of cords running from behind my computer to different electronics. Most of my electronics are bluetooth enabled and I just have not had the time to make use of their capabilities. I would highly recommend looking into bluetooth capabilities on your electronics because it makes a huge difference.
First, I removed all of the furniture from the space. Next, it was time to paint the accent wall. All the other walls in my room were a very neutral color. I wanted to accentuate the wall space for my office desk with a dark color. I chose Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams. Side Note: We actually have a crawl space behind my desk that I have always wanted to use as a hang out nook for the kids, but it is our only storage space in the house. (sigh)
After the paint was dry, it was time to put together the furniture. The chair came pre-assembled. I could look at this chair forever. It is just gorgeous, don’t you think? The shelving unit and desk both took under 15 minutes to assemble. I decided to upgrade my desk, too. I had previously been using a very small old desk. Now this new Mid-Centrury modern desk fits me and the room so much better.I love how my new desk has three drawers as opposed to my old desk that only had two. They are both incredibly sturdy and well-built. All of the furniture came with care tags and were thoroughly wrapped and sealed for shipping.
When I am decorating, I alway love to incorporate dark and light pieces of furniture. I love how the chair pops when paired with the dark desk. It gives this space the perfect moody vibes that I had envisioned.
What happened to all the electronics you ask? I have a work station to the right of my desk where I was able to tuck away my computer and cutting machine.
I am in love with the final result, aren’t you?
