As a child we vacationed to the cape with my family every year. Now that I have children of my own, I continue to carry on the same yearly tradition.
This past weekend, my family and I had the pleasure of staying at Ocean Edge Resort.
About Ocean Edge
Ocean Edge is located in Brewster, Massachusetts on Cape Cod Bay. It is a world-class resort on 429 acres of land. The resort features 5 pools, a 26.1 miless bike trail, 11 tennis courts and rooms furnished with Cape Cod decor. In addition to the 90 rooms in the main house, 29 exclusive modern-style villas organized along a private beach on the mansion side, and another 216 villa-style rooms arranged in three villages across the street populate the resort. The resort caters to families, couples, friends, singles and especially bridal parties and weddings.
Rooms at Ocean Edge
The resort has 337 rooms that are divided between the villas and the mansion. Part of the Mansion includes 31 villas and townhouses that make up the Presidential Bay Collection villas. These multi-level 1,200 to 1,400 sq. ft. villas include 2 and 3 bedroom units suitable for six to eight guests. Each villa or townhouse includes a spacious living area, dining area, kitchenette, washer/dryer and walkout deck.
The Villages at Ocean Edge
Note: ALL villas in The Villages have private beach access from Labor Day to Columbus Day.
The villas are spacious 1-3 bedroom units with a living room, in unit washer and dryer as well as a kitchenette with refrigerator, dishwasher and breakfast bar, microwaves, coffeemakers, stovetops or ovens/stove, toasters and a coffee maker. When vacationing with kids, I highly recommend stocking the fridge with drinks, fruit and deli meat to make sandwiches.
While you are more then welcome to make meals at your room, most of the pools and private beach do not allow coolers on site.
Just outside your resort room includes the beautiful Nicklaus Design golf course. They have a private, driving range and putting green, accessible to Members and Ocean Edge guests only.
Shuttle stops are located throughout the property to help guests get around.
Vacationing with families
Extensive daily activities hosted by the resorts program director. From lawn games (archery and corn hole) to building a bear workshops and DIY crafts.
An abundance of outdoor activities including golf, tennis, bike trails, pickle ball, kayaking and paddle boarding.
Indoor and outdoor pools, five to be exact. The Arbor Pool Complex in the Villages has the largest outdoor pool. The Arbor pool also has a toddler pool, hot tub and the Shark Bah. The Shark Bah has small bites, kid friendly drinks and alcoholic beverages. Just another location that will bring your food and refreshments right to your seat.
Amenities
What really separates the resort apart from everything else in the cape is the number of family activities on site.
They have their own private beach, the Cape Cod Rail Trail bike path running through the middle of the property, paddle boarding, kayaking, tennis, children’s programs as well as a list of daily activities. Outdoor movies are screened by the Arbor Pool.
Bicycles can be rented to cruise down the Cape Cod Rail Trail, directly accessible from the property.
The property’s host of facilities and services are geared so guests can spend their entire vacation on the massive property.
DINING
The Front Lawn
The front lawn is deserving of its own separate entry. It is that amazing. This space is right in front of the mansion. It is filled with Adirondack chairs, tents, fire pits and outdoor heaters for the cooler nights.
While you are enjoying a cool refreshment, the kids can play any of the outdoor games (like bocce and giant Jenga). Their is even an open area for kids to fly kites, which my children thoroughly enjoyed.
The on-site kitchen offers a wood-fired oven with an eclectic menu of light bites, such as wood-fired chicken wings, white clam pizza, and s’mores nachos. Food can be purchased just a few feet away. An outdoor pizza oven? I was sold.
BUT let me go ahead and recommend the s’mores nacho and the strawberry Nutella pizza. You will not be disappointed.
After you place your order, head back to your seat and wait for a text to let you know that your order is ready. No need to tirelessly wait in a line. How awesome is that?
I also heard that they offer pre-made picnic baskets for grab-and-go meals for a romantic experience.
The Front Lawn experience is seasonal and open to the public. It is available daily from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. If you are driving from the village, I recommend going more towards 4:00 to secure a parking space and grab a seat.
Ocean Terrace Restaurant
The most stunning view at Ocean Edge resort is from the Ocean Terrace above the mansion with views of Cape Cod Bay. I do highly recommend reservations.
When you walk in, you not only notice the gorgeous view, but seating around the fire pits that creates an upscale atmosphere.
My family and I were seated in the corner with the best view of the restaurant.
Linx Tavern and Bar
Linx Tavern is the perfect place for golfers and non-golfers alike. The service was “on par” and so was the menu.
The Tavern offers both inside and outside dining. The rain just passed and we were luckily able to dine outside overlooking the golf course. The tavern offers both lunch and dinner with a full menu.
I recommend the calamari, tomato burrata salad and Chicken Milanese.
Cape Cod just has an everlasting piece of my heart. The past few days with my family at Ocean Edge Resort was just what we needed. Let’s be honest, vacationing with kids is not always 100% relaxing, but the resort is very kid friendly and that was reassuring.
I got to enjoy some one on one time with my youngest, Gabby. We ate lunch together by the beach while my husband took our two oldest in the pool. I had time to listen to her talk. She wanted more cherries in her Shirley temple and The waiter quickly came over with a cup of cherries for her. She had such a big grin on her face it could light the room.
After lunch, we walked right down the stairs to the beach where we were set up with chairs, towels and an umbrella. Gray and Giuliana joined us after and we had such a fun day at the beach. The kids ordered food and drinks while they were playing in the sand. It was so nice to sit back and just watch them play. It was exactly what we needed before starting school next week.
Thank you Ocean Edge Resort for such a memorable stay.
