I’m delighted to be participating in the 2020 Spring Home Tour hosted by French Creek Farmhouse and I hope you’ll visit all of the amazing bloggers in this tour! You can find links to all of their homes in my blog post today.
I cannot believe it is March already. My how the time just seems to fly by. I think I notice it more now then ever because I have little ones that are growing right before my eyes. With the progression of the months, comes the changing of seasons. I love decorating for Spring and I am so proud to share Spring Refresh Ideas for your Living Room. I have 5 Simple Ideas to Transform your Room.
Typically, it is still snowing and we are getting blizzards in Connecticut, but not this year. We have already seen temperatures in the 70’s. We have enjoyed playing outside without coats, which is nearly unheard of this time of the year.
I am so excited you are here and I get to share my Living room Spring refresh with you. So grab your cup of coffee, put your feet up and enjoy!
Mix and match florals and greens
It is amazing how much you can liven up a room by just adding some green plants (whether they are faux or real). I cannot keep plants alive for anything. There are so many options on the market for plants that look real to the eye.
I absolutely love my fiddle leaf tree. You can interchange the plant holder you have for it as well. I used to keep the tree in a basket and now have it in a ceramic pot with a wood base. This plant was too short for my liking and gave it more height for the room.
Pillows and Throw Blankets
It is so easy to transform the look of a room with new pillow covers and throw blankets. I love to use pillow covers for easy storage. You simply take the pillow covers off and change them with the season. I make all of my pillow covers from my etsy shop, Living with Amanda. I also incorporated some pink pillows to add a pop of color.
Layer, Layer, Layer
I wanted to give you all some style variation for decorating your Spring Living room, so I introduced two looks into this room. For look one, I had the round gold mirror on the fireplace and for the second look, I layered framed artwork.
From the framed art from Minted on my fireplace to the throw blankets on my living room sofa, there are layers everywhere. Maybe layering stems from my cake decorating days and I have now transferred it into my decorating style as well.
I have also used this concept in other areas of my home. Do not think about laying for just soft items, but also for frames to mirrors on your mantle. Think about adding a large canvas on the mantle and a small canvas in front of it.
For my outdoor space this year, I layered two rugs on top of one another. I am very OCD, but I was able to off center the 5×7 rug and layer it over my 8×10 area rug. You will be able to see this in an upcoming post by Raymour and Flanigan.
I also layered textures in my bedroom with coverlets and throw blankets. It is incredibly appealing to the eye and adds a new level of “cozy” to your space.
Add an Area Rug
I may or may not have an obsession with area rugs. I will not tell you how many I have rolled up for future use in my office. I am constantly interchanging rugs for the season so they flow with my decor. During the winter season, you may have seen my living room with the ivory and black rug. For the Spring/ Summer season I now have my Loloi rug with hues of pink, ivory and blue tones.
Make a Focal Point
Draw your eye to a certain point in the room. For the living room, this is my mantle. My guests first see this area in my house and I want it to set the tone for the space. I choose my decor for the mantle and then the rest of the room falls into place. I added some greens, layered a canvas or mirror on the mantle and then drew in the colors from the canvas into my area rug, throw pillows and blanket.
I am so happy with how this room came together for the Spring season. If I could give you one takeaway, I would invest in new pillow covers and a throw blanket (for those on a budget, like myself). It is amazing how much you can change a room with textured and colorful pillows.
Ok and lets get really real for a hot second. My living room stays like this for a couple hours and then it looks like a tornado hit. To be honest, the kids have to go to my moms house, their grandmother’s, so I can clean and capture these photos for you. I literally sit down and take the cleanliness in for a little while. This room used to be a toy-free zone, but their playroom is downstairs in our raised ranch and it just makes life easier to have them play in this room, which is directly next to the kitchen. As you can see from the photos, I even have their Lilly Driver play tape in the room for the kiddos. I love how it still blends with the decor.
If you have made it this far in my post, thank you so much for taking the time to read through my Spring living room refresh. By now, I hope you’ve also had the time to drink through your coffee and your cup is empty, but your heart is full.
xoxo,
Amanda

Your living room is so calm and refreshing, Amanda! Like you, I’m a bit obsessed with area rugs…can’t tell you how many we have rolled up in the garage, and I love to switch them out regularly. Yours is gorgeous!
I also loved your tour because your home appears to have the exact same floor plan as our last home. It reminded me of how much I loved that house…although I can you tell you that you have about a thousand times better decorating ideas than I had for ours! And that might be the most gorgeous mantel I’ve ever seen…wow! xo, Kristi

Thank you so much Kristi. I am so glad that there is someone else like me. I have so many rugs rolled up as well so I can change them through the seasons. It is so amazing how a different rug brings life to a room and can completely change the look.

I really have a love hate relationship with our home. It is so difficult with little ones. We have a deck outside and I so wish I could open a door and let them play instead of worrying about stairs. I really appreciate your amazing compliment though.
