In grade school, I remember being so excited for Valentine’s Day. We made an entire day of crafts and constructing our mailboxes or envelopes that would hold all our Valentine’s cards from our friends. It was so fun going desk to desk and putting my cards in mailboxes. At the end of the day we were able to look through the cards and find tons of candy and snacks. Those are the memories I will cherish and want to bring into my own children’s lives.
Times may be different right now, but these traditions can live on with a few alternations. Schools are currently doing the best they can with virtual Valentine’s Day cards. Family and friends are sending letters in the mail for the kids. We are all doing the best we can.
As you know, I purchased paper mailboxes this year for my kids to decorate. I also bought Valentine’s for each of my kids to personalize to their friends. It has become a tradition of ours that we make heart Rice Krispie treats and send them along with their Valentine’s. I wanted a way to keep this tradition alive.
I thought it would be fun to leave the kids mailboxes at our front door and ask their friends to do the same. We would set a date with everyone and keep the mailboxes at our door for the length of the day. Friends could drop off their Valentine’s at our door, which keeps everyone safe and we would do the same at their door.
At the end of the day, the kids could go to their own door and see their mailboxes filled with Valentine’s from their friends. It’s honestly the little things right now to bring smiles to the kids faces. I hope this event works for you and if you try it, I would love to know how it turns out.
